The French Imperial Army was the land force of the Second French Empire under Napoleon III. It was among the first armies in the world issued Minie rifles, deployed in time for the Crimean War against Russia alongside Britain, and its performance there was judged more experienced at mass maneuver and war fighting than its British ally, greatly enhancing French military prestige.
