The Imperial Russian Army was the standing land force of the Russian Empire, founded November 2, 1721, and organized around regular troops alongside Cossack and Muslim auxiliary forces. It bore the brunt of Napoleon's 1812 invasion and, under Nicholas I, numbered over 1.1 million troops at the start of the Crimean War in the 1850s, before dissolving with the empire in 1917.
