Operation Biting, also called the Bruneval Raid, was a British Combined Operations raid on the night of 27-28 February 1942 against a German Wurzburg radar installation at Bruneval, northern France. Around 120 airborne troops of the 2nd Parachute Battalion, led by Major John Frost, parachuted in, seized the radar site and a captured German technician, and were evacuated by Royal Navy landing craft. The intelligence recovered allowed British scientists to understand German radar technology and develop effective countermeasures.
