Operation Frequent Wind was the final helicopter evacuation of American personnel and at-risk Vietnamese civilians from Saigon on 29-30 April 1975, as North Vietnamese forces closed on the South Vietnamese capital. U.S. Marine and Air Force helicopters lifted evacuees from the Defense Attache Office compound and the U.S. Embassy to Seventh Fleet ships offshore, evacuating over 7,000 people in the closing hours of the Vietnam War.
