Operation Palliser was the British military intervention in Sierra Leone beginning 7 May 2000, initially to evacuate foreign nationals as Revolutionary United Front rebels advanced on the capital, Freetown. The deployment expanded into training the Sierra Leone Army, backing United Nations peacekeepers, and conducting the special-forces hostage rescue Operation Barras, and is credited with helping end the Sierra Leone Civil War.
