The Punic Wars were a series of three wars fought between the Roman Republic and Carthage from 264 to 146 BC. The First Punic War (264 to 241 BC) ended in Roman victory and the annexation of Sicily; the Second Punic War (218 to 201 BC) is remembered for Hannibal's crossing of the Alps and his campaign in Italy; and the Third Punic War (149 to 146 BC) ended with Rome's destruction of the city of Carthage. Roman victory across all three wars left Rome in control of essentially every Carthaginian territory.
